St. Francis Medical Center is proud to be the largest hospital in Northeast Louisiana, as well as the largest private employer in Ouachita Parish. Whether you are choosing St. Francis Medical Center as your family’s provider of choice for healthcare, as a partner in providing healthcare to the residents of our region, or as a place of employment, we welcome you.

We have been providing healthcare services to this region for over 90 years. Our history began at the turn of the century when Father Ludovic Enaut, a retired priest in Monroe, promised to provide the money to build a sanitarium in Monroe if Sisters could be found who would give everything to the mission and ask for nothing in return. A search was conducted throughout Europe, and on November 14, 1911, six Sisters from the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Congregation arrived in Monroe from France to begin a healthcare ministry that would touch the lives of thousands annually. St. Francis Sanitarium and Training School for Nurses, the first hospital and nursing school in northeastern Louisiana, opened its doors on July 22, 1913.

Today, St. Francis Medical Center is proud to offer cutting-edge technology and superior service to the residents of our region. Our level of providing compassionate care is still based on the original mission of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady – extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to all those who seek our services.

Whether you are choosing St. Francis Medical Center as your healthcare provider, or as a place of employment, we welcome the opportunity to serve you.
